Unit 8: Decimal Computation Study Pages and Extra Practice
We have exciting news in our class. Ms. Kaitlyn Addison, a student teacher from James Madison University, will be working with my class and teaching my students until December 15. We are very lucky to have Ms. Addison. She is already proving to be a wonderful asset to our class. The students seem to be enjoying learning from her. In the "Files and Documents" tab, you will find her introduction letter.
Please be advised that the math test, Unit 4: Data Analysis and
Statistics, is NOT on 11/9. It is on 11/16. As with all tests, a study
guide will be sent home.
11/4- No school for students- Teacher Work Day
11/7- No school for students- Student-led conferences all day
11/8- No school for students and teachers- Election Day
11/11- No school for students and teachers- Veterans Day
Fifth Grade Families,
The year is off to a really great start. I am enjoying getting to know the students, and all the wonderful strategies they already know in math, reading, and writing. There are a few things coming up that I would like to bring to your attention:
Wednesday, 9/21: The PTO is holding an Ice Cream Social. Please come out and enjoy ice cream and a bounce house. The time is 5:00-7:00 pm. The cost is $5 per family.
Thursday, 9/29: Back to School Night for 5th Grade from 6:30-7:30 pm. Please come and join your child's teachers for a very informative session about this school year. We will be discussing valuable information about fall conferences, as well.
Wednesday, 9/21: Math Test for Units 1 and 2, Whole Number Computation and Decimal/Money Review
Wednesday, 9/28: Language Arts Test for Plot, Conflict, and Resolution
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, or would just like to say hello, feel free to contact me.
Welcome to Fifth Grade with Mrs. Walker! I am delighted to be your child's teacher this year. A little about me: This is my 16th year teaching fifth grade in Virginia. This is my fifth year at Minnieville. My love for this school and its community grows with each passing day. It is my mission to teach not only the fifth grade standards and objectives, but to instill in your child the tools he or she will need to be successful in middle school and beyond.
My classroom is vibrant, full of laughter, a bit loud sometimes, and always active. My passions are math, reading books out loud (Wonder, Because of Winn Dixie, Bridge to Terabithia, The Lemonade War), and working with fifth graders' social interaction through lessons in compassion and integrity.
My personal life includes my husband, my daughter, and my two older stepdaughters, all of whom play soccer. So, I'm a busy soccer mom as well!
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns, or just to say hello! Follow me on Twitter @mnesmrswalker to see what our class is up to or contact me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
