Gifted Identification Update

With the closure of Prince William County Schools due to COVID-19, the timeline for gifted identification has been affected. The division-level Gifted Identification/Placement Committees will meet to review cases and make decisions regarding eligibility as soon as possible when PWCS reopens. We will continue to keep you updated as the situation evolves. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the gifted resource teacher at your child's school.

START & SIGNET

Strategies for Teaching and Reaching for Talents
Schools Involved in Gifted Needs in Education Today

The START program offers gifted education services for identified students in kindergarten through third grade.  Students are identified based on specific academic aptitude in the areas of language and/or mathematics.  Because of their advanced academic abilities, gifted students need acceleration and enrichment, as well as opportunities for creative and critical thinking. The START goals are to challenge students to develop their skills in thinking critically, creatively, and reflectively.  Students are offered a variety of educational opportunities that extend and enrich the county curriculum and support the
Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs).

The SIGNET program offers gifted education services for students in grades 4-5 who have been determined eligible in a specific academic aptitude area or areas. The curriculum is designed to expand and extend the classroom curriculum while encouraging exploration in areas of interest. The students attend SIGNET class one day per week. Additionally, the gifted resource teacher collaborates with the regular classroom teacher to plan strategies for differentiation of instruction.

Vision: Every learner will strive to meet their individual potential.

Mission: In collaboration with teachers, parents, and the community, all students will be challenged to achieve academic success, achieve personal excellence, and become lifelong learners
